its a pleasure to introduce tony rainwater, undoubtedly the most productive and creative savage weve come across recently. see usually we dont do this, lehult is a crew affair, but this guy left us no choice. being a music enthusiast, dj and dancer for a long time, tony has only most recently picked up producing his own music, yet at a stunning rate: when we first asked him for a demo, three months after he started producing, he swiftly dropped us a set of twenty-five tracks, another set of fifty more soon followed. his productions are straight rough edged, no-prisoners-taken jams, combining samples from the most far-flung corners of his eclectic music collection. his magical patchwork wild style is on full display on his debut rockberry jam ep for lehult. the a-side takes us through the lighter side of his repertoire with the title tracks slow building house groove, some dizzy medieval monk grooves on to all the world and seductive r&b on lay it on the line. on the flip operalight irresistible groove and black dream flowers provide some darker moments, before alone closes on a soft note. the vinyl version includes an extra goodie after the runouts. tony is now a fixed member of the crew already and were proud to have him and his crazy energy on the team. this wont be the last youll hear of him.

das komplex, aka marcin £ukaszewicz aka. what is this guys name? whoever he is, he is fucking slow. but word on the street is, he is super happy, to be slow, and to make records, and build ships, or whatever it is that he does, when hes not answering our emails. rumour has it, that henry is the man who built the ostbahnhof - with his own bare hands. before that he was making music. for twenty carefree, happy-go-lucky years. recently, he started releasing some of it, much to his surprise, on nice, family-themed labels such as young adults and father & son. this is his first offering for love on the rocks. its sublime, its soft, and it wants you to fall in love, at night, back in the days, under the electric light of your favourite dancefloor, with two major jams on the a-side, and a consciousness-altering, life-changing, dance floor destroying, 13-minute disco trip on the other. music to microdose to.

there’s not a lot to tell about the project glow in the dark by a certain harry miller. only perhaps we can state that with these eight tracks at hand harry miller accomplished probably the most enchanting album of the still quite young year. just when we wanted to dismiss the short-dated genre of chillwave wistfully, “future bliss” comes along with a bewitching sound hailing from an optimistic but cranky future. already the opening track “step one” with its vocal samples and its spoken word intro is futuristic soul full of affirmation of life pillowed on a synth bedding smoothed to the max up to its edges. but also the following seven tracks spread infectious positive vibes all around. the magic of glow in the dark’s tracks is energized mostly by miller’s delicate way of treating his various samples, a wary manner one usually only shows when picking up a guitar. and unlike sample based music feeding from hiphop his tracks are completely free from any sort of nostalgia, because all of his songs are designed for the future through and through. “future bliss” is one hell of a joy ride, from the first note to the last tone. the neon funk of “1987”, the broken beat of “7 billion = 1”, the synth pop of “the last dance” and in general, all of the eight tracks could be little, but great hymns on their own. but only in its entirety they sparkle this fathomless ingeniousness hidden in glow in the dark. in the end it seems to be wiser that one has as little background information as possible to be able to lose oneself fully in this “future bliss”.

henrik schwarz first work for running back and concurrent solo piece since 2013 is a prime example of the mans uncanny production abilities. recent years saw schwarz more and more gravitating towards the intersections between electronic music and jazz, classical compositions or african sounds than serving the weekly bread and butter at clublands busy buffet car. now, not also you is a return to exactly that honourable craft and service. built around an imagined and imaginary curtain lecture from a saint to a sinner and housed in one of henriks most techno looking robes as of yet, its a no-brainer or shall we dare say a reaper of a track without frills but with a fata morgana like rave signal. oh, there is a dub for snobs (not you also), too. peak time, high time, any time. nice sleeve on top.

emerald city is the first release of verdant recordings, a new label to present carefully curated deep music across the electronic spectrum. on this ep are 3 highly respected producers from the uk leigh dickson, john shima and plant43 (emile facey) and a 4th debut track from a disciple of the halcyon days of emotive music mihail petrovski. musically this ep is all about deep techno, the exquisite sounds and characteristic style of each producer is unmistakeable. emerald city was first released as limited edition of lathe cuts but interest in the project completely overwhelmed its availability. this 2nd pressed edition should keep the deep-heads satisfied and will also include the beautiful artwork from sophie o leary presented in the 1st edition.

the third release on ascorbites own corseque records is not for the faint-hearted. advance the flight and inadequate demeanor are clearly twins, delivered from the darkest corners of ascorbite’s mind. the bold, pounding quality of the ep brings adam x or grovskopa to mind but ascorbite has a dystopian touch that’s entirely his own. advance the flight is like a battle track for an intergalactic armada being attacked by an infinite horde of swarming space ants. inadequate demeanor, on the other hand, is a grim steampunk fantasy of a black, shining locomotive plainly out of control, raging on red hot rails towards the end of the line. however, while both tracks are rough and unforgiving, ascorbite manages to invigorate them by the use of subtle melancholic atmospheres – like rainy skies over a concrete desert. a balance between brutalism and vitality. a trademark of ascorbite and corseque records.

nice price deal !!! andrea paganin is our latest member of the kompass family from italy. his former releases on labels such as tenax, modulator or circle already stirred quite a buzz and now its his turn on kompass musik presenting to us his >big shit deluxe ep<. its andreas dark and classic original on a1, followed by a remix by his circle label fellow marco sarto, which takes things a bit straighter. on the flip side its well-known argentian seph known guy showing us his remix skills. his releases on phonocult and dumb-unit made him quite famous already and we are proud to have his dark but deep minimal techno remix production aboard. to complete the package, its roberto clementi, a london based italian who contributes a bouncy and twisted piece of music, a perfect addition to the whole package. we love it.

shamrock grew up in the township called ‘kwathema’, in the east of johannesburg. he has being crazy for music since he was a young child, and at primary school he sang as the soloist in the choir. everyone now knows that south africa is the house music capitol of the world! most young upcoming producers look up the american and european producers, but shamrock’s sound is standing out from the rest, as he’s been digging into his african roots to come up with his own style of music, working with mainly south african musicians, only using the computer to record the audio. on this album he’s also featured international musicians han litz,flutist from the netherlands, asali, vocalist from kenya, andy compton, from the uk, and jimmy gabriel on sax from nigeria.

180 gr , ron bacardi joins rnt with a 4-track inferno of disco edit heat! the a-side races out of the gate with the galloping back for more, followed by the soulful bounce of circles, which loops a gritty guitar-driven hook to perfection. the b side kicks off with music play, an easy-breezy synth-string, electric piano, and horn-laden affair. swirling percussion and soaring falsettos take us home on never dance, but don t get it twisted: with señor bacardi at the controls, dance you will!

it is kind of difficult to imagine tv or radio shows accompanied by tracks like “neutroni”, “mr. mysterious”, “fucina diabolica” or “idillio cosmico”, but in 1973 - the year this gem was released - italian tv was often surprising the audience with innovative shows, likely to host music such as fabor’s compositions. listening again to these 14 short compositions is still an extraordinary experience if we consider their impact and influence on contemporary music and on hip labels of our days like ghost box. along with “pape satan”, this is probably the best fabio fabor ever.

matrixxman has been a dekmantel regular for a couple of years now. the san francisco producer continues to impress with a new triptych for dekmantel records. over the course of three eps (rhythm, acid, polyphony), charles mccloud duff displays his versatile and original take on house and techno. the concept of the triptych is to explore the range within the confines of a particular limitation. this second ep sector ii: acid- shows an exercise in acid. similarly, the tb-303 may conjure certain knee-jerk reactions at a glance, but acid has the potential to cover a broader palette of emotion than one might initially expect. sector ii holds three squirming 303 sequences and the classic rhythmic drum programming of arrival, bad acid and i am matrix. rites on the other hand is more subtle and fluent, swinging with hazy acid flourishes and dynamic syncopation.

it s no secret that idle hands is a label built on a foundation of dub. from the earliest releases by pev, kowton and szare through to more recent output from o$vmv$m and christian jay, the influence of bristol s soundsystem heritage looms large in the myriad electronic music threads the label encompasses. sometimes this influence is explicit, other times implied, but the principles of sub heavy, spacious music for both body and mind guide the stylistic arc of the label as a direct result of the label s long time immersion in roots and dub culture.

the 3rd release on proletarijat is about to continue the story about sev dah’s vision of todays values of techno. mental and driving but simple and yet emotional is the concept of proletarijat003, and sev dah did the job on the a side with -pledge- - the synth is hypnotising but yet forward going, a true techno banger that’s order is to transform your reality.

b side’s -sloga- is the more simple side of 003 but also the most powerful story that sev is telling here.

trained in the art of deejay toasting by the legendary dennis alcapone, lester bulllock initially called himself alcapone junior, until maverick record producer lee scratch perry renamed him dillinger in the early 1970s, following his success on a west kingston sound system called smith the weapon, based in the ghetto of payne avenue. perry cut dillingers first dozen tracks, and there was early work for other producers such as prince tony, augustus pablo, enos mcleod and phil pratt, then, dillingers debut album, ready natty dreadie, was a local hit for studio one, but the cb200 set for island catapulted him to international prominence. yet, the dillinger material with the roughest edge was always produced by bunny striker lee, as this lp, answer my question, so amply demonstrates. first issued in the netherlands on the scramble label in 1977, it shows dillinger on fearsome form, his relaxed rhyming toasts tackling sound system matters, the rastafari lifestyle, action movie subplots, the highs and lows of romantic relationships, the need to help the less fortunate, and other burning issues of the day with biting wit and verbal dexterity, all delivered over tough aggrovators rhythms—including an unusual cut of the three piece suit rhythm. go deh! reissued on lp and cd, on cd for the first time ever!

the visionary musician and record producer augustus pablo made some of the most unique and individual recordings in the history of reggae. as with his friend and mentor, jackie mittoo, the man born horace swaby was of mixed indian and african heritage, and although his middleclass background might have pointed him in a very different direction, the lure of jamaica’s sound system culture captured him at a young age, particularly after debilitating health problems saw him drop out of school. he began recording as a session keyboardist as the 60s gave way to the 70s, but everything changed when a schoolfriend introduced him to the melodica, a small plastic keyboard operated by a mouthpiece, which he used on seminal recordings for producer herman chin-loy, credited to augustus pablo on release. during the early 1970s, pablo crafted melodica instrumentals for all of the leading reggae producers, scoring ‘best instrumental’ for ‘java’ in 1973, and launching the rockers label to showcase self-produced work at the same time. this multifaceted compilation, first issued on bunny lee’s attack label in 2005, compiles memorable melodica interpretations of some of lee’s greatest productions, recorded over dub cuts of immortal numbers such as cornell campbell’s ‘queen of the minstrel’ and john holt’s ‘my desire.’ reissued on lp and cd with bonus tracks!

secret crunch follows up with the second release, the „one split wonder“ ep. another record by label heads roman rauch and moony me, but this time separated on two sides.

btaim resumes its line of raw techno templates with a pair of stripped-back but funked-up floor killers. promising berlin-upstart tecture draws inspiration both from his hometown as well as detroit, delivering two highly effective yet emotive club weapons. their bold basement vibe may seem grim on the surface, but they glimmer with hope underneath. it is this very interplay between murk and melancholy that embodies the record with dynamic textures and a narrative. in similar fashion trevino pairs imposing low end rumble and bright arps, reworking the title track into his own dnb-reminiscent signature style. with the addition of btaim006 to their catalogue, both artist and label have placed themselves on this year‘s watch lists for sure.

noumen - white silence we first spotted noumen in 2012 and alongside cygnus was one of the first to be asked to join cpu. over 4 years later he finally delivers an ep and lp that is a true labour of love. abstract electronics of the highest quality. it s idm, but with that essential hip hop influence making it immeasurably more addictive and pleasing. with plenty of melody and swing layered over intricate rhythm programming, it leaves listeners stunned. white silence is taken from the forthcoming album apeiron. remaining 3 tracks are exclusive to this ep.

after an ep on creme organization off-shoot jericho one as dj plant texture, dona basile now assumes his dona alias for a new ep on the main label. entitled the v.g.p sessions, it features four new cuts from the italian, with three of them being dj pt mixes. up first is a live cut version of energia , a bristling electro track with globular bass and coarse hits. turbulent but full of synth based serenity, it is a fine start. cigarettes (djpt mix) is rugged and broken, with glossy idm synths and corrugated drums all loosely arranged into something prickly and unsettling. the deads at twelve (djpt mix) then gets even more fucked up, with rusty synths and blown out drums making for a dystopian house groove that will likely soundtrack the apocalypse. last but not least, nr. 13 (djpt mix) mixes up detroit synths, wild acid, heavenly chords and chopped up, buried deep vocal samples into something that will fire every synapse in your body. this is outlier stuff from dona that sounds like little else.

second chapter in the af voiceless series. the label run by pervert keeps on broadening its own catalogue by adding artists committed to the underground electronic cause. this ep is a 5-track new voyage through analogue-crafted soundscapes, acid-injected breaks, thudding bass lines, warm and intricate melodies...the sheerest voice for the voiceless. af005y introduces new members to the family as houston-based daed (ian lambert), who displays his ability to create a perfect acid-glitched called pulse lunar . thus, smiley moon is above all a glimpse into the analogue world of the well-known rolando simmons, proving himself he s one of the brightest electronic artists of the moment. sheffield based dave forrester (techdiff) twists the modular in jamuary with a killer aphexian/jenkinson temper. longing raving days are depicted in quest with an evocative electro halo by the hand of the irish producer cignol. last but not least, smoke , an acid junglist and braindance orgy signed by gareth clarke, known for his previous works on canada s sublight records (venetian snares, bill laswell) and lovelove records. limited and handnumbered as usual.

nathan bartell grew up in a little town called ashburn, georgia but soon moved to atlanta georgia where he began to perform in the night clubs. in 1973 he released “top going down, bottom going up” on the soul-po-tion label. bartell remembers: “at the time i was having family problems. my wife didn’t want me and i was deep in love. i felt at that time that i was at the bottom of the pit and i wanted to rise up out of that mess because my wife made me feel that i was a nobody. i was not good enough for her - nobody wants you when you are down and out. she felt that she were on the top and i was on the bottom. this song was a message at that time.” there is nothing for us to add except that we are delighted to bring this little beauty back to new life.

after a first collaboration focusing on the city of angels, la legend john tejada and acid innovator tin man (johannes auvinen), this time brooding on the latters home city, and formers birthplace, vienna. the austrian capital is known as the city of music and the city of dreams, two broadly aligning concepts that go far in describing this beguiling 12-inch. the four songs were mixed down live to 2 tracks, created in the real world without a daw, or multi tracking, which has really captured the spirit of performance and improvisation. succeeding railjet, a tense drum workout, comes bim, referring to the colorful trams that run through vienna. here, auvinen sculpts his 303 into near-pizzicato form. the acid box is accompanied by stately pads making for one of the duo’s most memorable tracks yet. the next cut, danube nights, references the mighty, ancient river, the flow motion mirrored by a couple of widescreen acid lines. a pensive lead and some melancholy chords emerge, but the drums roll right along like the water- tough enough for a heaving floor with a hint of fragility for the headphones. the record concludes with the acidic prater allee, named after idyllic, sprawling park on the banks of the danube. the duos love letter to vienna is well-suited for travel, for the dance and for dreaming.

i admit i wasn’t familiar with this album, so many just pass us by, but as i sat back and listened, i slowly realized that this isn’t just any soul lp, it’s a masterpiece, full of passion and tenderness, it was like a huge hug from long lost lover... beautiful... enjoy it!

like a slug persistently stuck to the bottom of a half-pipe in the community park over which there has been much debate, grey people has long been making tracks within proximity of the teenage forbidden zone from the detached, elemental perspective of a dark, moist creature. cryogenically frozen should we be? schwarzenegger cries liquid nitrogen teardrops but allows you entree to the dance floor, filled with the icy carved physiques of electro snowmen. coma tunnel makes going flatline sound beautiful and sad. the fluorescent hum of the bulbs lighting the conical ceramic passage to oblivion provides a nostalgic pillow to press our face into. on the b side, the tornhawk squad mess-up of coma tunnel begins with toddler-techno thuggery. then guitar chews grape nuts cereal all loud in the ear of your high school principal. then some screechy, finally soothing greeting from the angels that escort you to afterlife s beanbag chair.

it was such a hot day in may 2014, we all remember, moscoman drop by his home town of tel aviv to do a party with krikor aka crackboy as his guest, they had a few hours to kill just before the gig, mosco rang up his old compadres and brothers in arms red axes, to see what they were up to, they were just hanging at the studio, “we’re coming” he said, and the rest is history, thanks to the taxi driver abed that was waiting downstairs to take them to the gig, they had vocals to finish this track and mosco had the chance to play this track that night already. powered by a uncompromising mix from no doubt one of the best producers of electronic music, roman flügel, and another killer by red axes, not a lot is left to do but wait for this monster record to drop.

private eyes, a duo made up of interstellar funk and jeroen, two storied members of amsterdams underground electronic music community. 500, vinyl only. tip! their safe trip debut consists of two analogue-heavy electronic workouts that tend towards the atmospheric. a-side -mirror image- is spacey and melodious, with an italo-disco inspired arpeggio bassline underpinning galactic chords and memorable piano lines. it s a collection of complimentary analogue elements tweaked for maximum late night enjoyment. on the flip you’ll find -anasazi-, an altogether deeper, more hypnotic affair. its distinctive rhythm comes not from bold drum machine beats, but rather the rising and falling of intricate, micro-house style melodies and looped electronics. it feels like it was influenced by the aural textures of dub techno, the phase-based minimalism of steve reich, and the deep space ethos of early 90s european ambient music.
